XRD_ANALYSIS:
40 kV - 30 mA, 6.5-9.5 keV
File: dat51399.mdi, *.out (smear mount on quartz plate)
References: JCPDS #36-429
Found: Datolite, unindexed very weak reflections at 3.03 and 1.838 angstroms
Comment: The very weak reflections may be datolite reflections that are too weak to
be listed by JCPDS. Reflections are very sharp, suggesting excellent
crystallinity.

MICROSCOPIC_EXAMINATION:
Mode:
95 vol% Datolite
5 vol% Calcite
Bimodal Grain size distribution:
pop1 sz = 237 µm at 80 vol%
pop2 sz = 15 µm at 20 vol%
avg gr sz = 210 µm
Biaxial (-), no cleavage, conchoidal fracture, consistent with Datolite. Difficult to optically differentiate Datolite from calcite under microscope. Vol% calcite estimated from number of grains that fizzed with HCl. G. Swayze.
